This website is written by me, Burr Öhrström, and I have made all photographs. My ambition is to create wildlife photography of highest quality and to tell the stories about them.
Let me give a very brief summary, to let you know who takes the photos, and why you should bother reading.
Biography
I Live in the countryside in Sweden. I was born 1973 in Stockholm, and I’ve lived happily as a family man for over 20 years now. It has been a great period of my life, but my kids are grown up now, and I think about where I’m heading. As I’ve always taken a lot of photos, I’ve always loved nature and wildlife, and used to travelled a lot, I’ve decided to continue that path, but with a clear purpose.
When I went by myself to Indonesia 1991, and continued through the years to many other places, it was just to see things. Now I’ll go with a professional level camera and gear, to fewer places, and with the precise intention of creating the best wildlife and landscape photos I can get. It is not meant to be an holiday.
The Website
This is done entirely on my own wishes, but I want people to care about my work, so I’ve setup this website as a platform to share my work. It may partly be a wish of self expression, but this is mainly aimed to inspire others, so that more are willing to support the much needed protection of environment and wildlife.
So, I’ve created this website as late as 2024, 51 years old, which may seem late, but in good time to get lots of years to get somewhere as a wildlife and landscape photographer. What you see now is simply the start. My photographic journeys will concentrate on Northern Europe and the Himalayas, two distant but somewhat similar areas, that have a great appeal to me. After all, you find mountains, snow, brown bears, wolves and otters at both places.
Swedish is my first language, but I write the website in English to make it readable for as many people as possible.
Looking Back
I’ve taken so many photos through the years, and seen quite a lot of places. When I was 18 years old, 1991, I went to Indonesia, the next I went to Malaysian Borneo, then to Peru and Bolivia, and so it continued. It is more than 30 years ago, decades that have brought many changes, and form now the future decades may well bring as many.
I want to show an old time favourite. It is a digitalisation of an incredible scene I saw in Nepal, year 2000. The camera wasn’t great, and the format was Kodachrome, which I’ve scanned, so the quality isn’t nearly as good as I wish it was, but it was quite a sight and a powerful illustration of the struggle between humans and wildlife, and the dangers involved for both.
